David Hubler announced today that during 2010 David Hubler Photography will be making greater use of HDR Software to capture and enhance architectural interior photos and in other situations that require the capture of scenes that have a very wide range of extremely bright and dark areas. HDR or High Dynamic Range software is used were a single exposure cannot capture both the light and dark areas in the composition of the image. An example could be a family room with soft interior lighting and large bright windows.
Without HDR software the best way to capture that type of scene requires the addition of one or more studio lights to brighten the room to match the window brightness. Adding lights also adds shadows and possibly glare and unwanted reflections. Locating and adjusting several lights in a space can become a time consuming process of relocating and adjusting each light. In some cases the required lights may not even fit in the space being photographed.
David Hubler stated “ HDR software allows the photographer to shoot 3 -5 exposures of the space with the existing light and then merge them into a completed photo in post production. The software has been improving rapidly over the past two- three years but it is still not idea for all situations. In cases where HDR images are possible though, it allows a much more cost effective way to photograph a space than setting up and adjusting multiple strobes or hot lights.”
David added “I used the HDR software on about a dozen projects last year and expect to use it much more extensively 2010, possibly even on some exterior shots. By late spring 2010, I plan to post additional examples and more information about how this new tool works and what it can do on my website at www.davidhubler.com.” The image included is one example of a photo created using HDR software.
